Plumbing Tip

Flooded Basement?

Most insurance companies will cover most of the cost associated with a broken water line that floods your basement. They usually pay to access the leak (removal of concrete and reinstallation of carpet) but they will not pay for repairing the plumbing.

The good news is that repairing the plumbing is a minor portion of the total cost.

Plumbing Since 1976

Merrell Plumbing is owned and operated by Mark Merrell.

Mark started out in the plumbing trade when he was quite young. When he was in high school, he became an apprentice plumber as a way to pay for his private parochial school education.

After his marriage to his high school sweetheart, he went to work for T. E.  Dunlevey & Son as a licensed plumber.  He started Merrell Plumbing in 1974.

Years later, when Mr. Dunlevey died, Mark purchased T. E. Dunlevey & Son Plumbing.

How The Plumbing Trade Has Changed

Mark has seen a lot of changes in the plumbing trade since then.  When he started, nobody was using plastic for pipes and fittings.  Today, everything can be done in plastic.  Every year, there are changes in code requirements dealing with safety-related issues.

Mark and his staff make it a point to stay on top of the changes to make sure your plumbing projects pass inspection.

Continuing education is the key.  He does this by sending employees all over the country for continuing education to learn the latest technology for the proper installation and service of:

  • water heaters

  • electric control work

  • backflow prevention

  • and more

Future Plans

The future looks very bright for Merrell Plumbing.  M.E. Merrell continues to grow 10% every year through:

  • acquisition (the latest being Parker Plumbing in Fairborn) and

  • the addition of new products and services for their existing and new customers.  Look for heating and cooling as the next new area of growth.
